How to Personalize Your Home
Saturday, November 16, 2019
We’ve all done it – walked past someone else’s house and just known exactly who lived there. Maybe you can tell they’re a free-spirited adventurer from the surfboard leaning casually next to the front door. Or perhaps the brightly-colored flowers and spinning pinwheels tells you someone creative lives there. We all get a first impression from the outside of someone’s house – after all, it’s where you spend most of your time, where you will celebrate your successes, play with your children and lay your head at night. Below are some ways you can personalize your home from the outside, so what people see on the outside reflects you and your loved ones as much as the décor on the inside.
Siding
Not only will this make your home more weather-resistant and prevent you having to call out emergency repair services, but you can also select different colors or patters when you choose to have siding installation. This is a neat way to smarten up the exterior of your home, and you can also use it to reflect who you are, whether you go for something bright and jaunty, or you want to stick to chic and traditional. Whatever your style, you’ll find something for you.
Outdoor Space
If you’re lucky enough to have a yard or external space at the front of your home, make the most of it – this is a great opportunity to make a first impression! You can choose to have plants, although if you aren’t green-fingered, you’re better off choosing hardwearing plants that will stand the test of time and won’t need a great deal of work. If you don’t have anywhere to plant, have you thought about pots? Arrangements of different sizes and shapes of pots can make a really striking display, and you can stock them with foliage which will last all year round.
Decorations
You might want to go all out with some decorations for the outside of your home. Mirrors can give the illusion of space and light, as well as adding a magical feel. There are also trellises and smaller items like birdhouses which, painted a jaunty color, will improve the aesthetic of your home as well as helping the environment. If you like the idea of a birdbox but don’t want to start hammering things into the front of your house, it will be just as beneficial to the local wildlife round the side or the back of your property. Alternately, you can get standing ones.
Front Door
There are so many ways to brighten up with outside of your home, and the front door is one of the main ones. It’s a real show of who you are and you have a vast range of possible style and color combinations. Make sure you’re aware though that your front door is also one of the most likely entrance points for a break in so, while thinking about colors, also make sure you’re carefully considering security.
Whatever you decide to do with your home, and whichever sort of style and look you prefer, make sure you pick something that truly represents your personal style and you will love for years to come.
