2018 Is Ending... But Don't Write Off Your Health For The Rest Of The Year!
Thursday, December 13, 2018
It’s easy to maintain a healthy lifestyle in the summer months. On those warm and bright mornings where the outside world calls to you invitingly from your open window, it’s easy to start your day with a jog, a trip to the gym or a jaunt on your bike. It’s easy to choose a salad over a greasy cheeseburger when the sun is out and your body needs to remain bikini ready for the beach. It’s easy to drink plenty of water when you don’t feel depressed, sluggish and as though you can’t take a single step without a coffee in your hand.
Yup, there’s no denying it, it’s hard to be healthy in the winter months. The inevitable excess of Thanksgiving is right behind us while the… additional excess of Christmas and New Years lie in front. But as hard as it may be to stand tall, stiffen your lip and commit to the healthy life, you’ll reap the rewards over winter and end the year on a high note!
You never know what’s lurking in your AC
One of the most important steps you can take in safeguarding your health over winter lies not in your body, but in your home. If it’s been a while since anyone came to check out your AC, now’s the time to give it the maintenance and / or emergency ac repair it sorely needs. Without it, your AC unit could become a breeding ground for a harmful array of germs. As hard as it is to stay motivated in the winter months, it’s even harder when you’re burning up, have no energy, feel like death and have to keep a tissue permanently pressed to your runny news.
No excuses for slacking off at the gym
You may well find that your friends, family and work colleagues have given themselves a pass at the gym for the rest of the year. While it’s tempting to write off the rest of the year, gracing it with a few half-hearted workouts over the coming weeks or simply abandon it altogether, you’d be letting yourself down.
Not only will you benefit from a leaner body while everyone else is letting out their belt lines, your brain will also benefit from a rush of feel good chemicals which will keep the winter blues at bay.
Suppress your hibernation instinct
When the weather grows cold and forbidding, we may feel tempted to barricade ourselves indoors, hunker down under a duvet and immerse ourselves in a huge bag of M&Ms. Even the most disciplined of us feels this hibernation instinct over winter. However, being around people and interacting with them is crucial for your mental health. Don’t deprive yourself of the joy that other people can bring to your life.
Christmas is not a free pass for junk food!
It seems an unspoken rule that Christmas is a free pass to gorge on all the junk food we want under the proviso that we’ll end our naughty ways in the new year. However, while you should absolutely enjoy a hale and hearty Christmas dinner, this doesn’t mean that you should dedicate yourself to getting as much junk food in your stomach as possible until the year ends.
Load your plate with healthy and nutritious foods that will bring you health and happiness over winter.
You’re doing so well, so close to the finish line… There’s no reason not to go out strong!
