Three Ways You Can Get A Better Night's Sleep
Sunday, June 10, 2018
Sleep is just one of those things that can be very difficult to get right. We all have busy lives to lead. We can often feel stressed with work, for example. With deadlines to meet or big projects to take control of. We can be busy on the social scene with friends and family, and life, in general, can take over, causing us to burn the candle at both ends. However, we do need to sleep in order to recuperate and allow our body time to rest. So how do we get a better night’s sleep? I thought I would share with you some of the tips you could consider.
Invest in where you sleep
It isn’t just about the room, it is about where you lay your head and body at night. If your bed isn’t comfortable, then you’ll struggle to relax and feel at ease. So it’s so important to invest in a decent bed, mattress and even things like the duvet and pillows that you feel comfortable with. Doing plenty o f research online is a good idea. It’s down to what you feel happy and content with. It’s also a good idea to visit the store and actually try out things like mattresses yourself, there is only so much information you can take online.
Think about the food and drink you consume
It might not seem very obvious to you, but the food you eat and the things you will drink can have an adverse effect on how you sleep. The first thing to think about would be to cut down on the caffeine. Ideally find a cutoff point, for example, try to avoid caffeinated drinks after 3pm, and then stick with water or no sugar drinks for the evening. Perhaps finishing off with a warm milk or something decaffeinated like a herbal tea at night. The same can be said for alcohol It can have a negative impact on your sleep so avoid if you can. However, we all have lived so just avoid the alcohol on those nights you definitely need your beauty sleep. When you eat can also have a negative effect on how well we sleep. The reason for this is not allowing time for your meal to digest. This can then go on to cause stomach ache in the night meaning which will cause broken sleep. It may be a good idea to eat heavier meals during the day and stick to light meals at night. Or try and avoid eating too late so you do give your body some time to digest the food you have eaten.
Make sure you are tired from the day
Getting up earlier can give you a great start to the day, but it could also mean that you need to compensate by going to bed earlier at night. This helps to balance out the amount of sleep you really need. A great way to ensure your body is tired is to make sure you fill your day and exercise can be a great way to utilize energy built up inside. It isn’t just about physical, but also mentally feeling tired, exercise can do that but it can also mean trying to fill your day with chores and things you need to concentrate on. Finally, a quick read of a book before bed can help you to wind down and still be concentrating on something. Helping you to feel tired.
I hope that these three tips help you on your way to getting a better night's sleep.
