Housing Works's Design on a Dime An annual benefit for which more than 50 top interior designers including Patrick Hamilton, Tyler Wisler, Miles Redd and James Huniford create unforgettable room vignettes, in which every piece is available for sale — at 50 to 70 percent off retail pricing — with all proceeds going to charity, a housing development for formerly homeless New Yorkers living with H.I.V./AIDS. Since Mr. Huniford conceived the event a decade ago, it has raised $6 million. “It was important from the beginning that the money went directly to the cause,” he said. “I always worked hard to find sponsors to pay for the operating part of it.” (This year’s sponsor is Elle Decor magazine.)
